Whole‐body oxidative stress reduction during testosterone therapy in ageing men. A randomized placebo‐controlled trial

The study aimed to determine the effect of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) on whole-body oxidative stress in aging men and evaluate whether changes in oxidative stress were mediated by changes in body composition. A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study was conducted for 24 weeks in 38 men aged 60-78 years. The results showed that TRT decreased whole-body oxidative stress compared to placebo, which could be mediated by changes in body composition, particularly the increase in lean body mass and decrease in whole-body fat. However, the safety of TRT concerning cardiovascular disease is still unresolved.
