Work-Related Sleep Disorders: Causes and Impacts

Insufficient sleep syndrome, shift work disorder, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can significantly affect the health of affected individuals and pose a threat to public safety. These sleep disorders lead to cognitive deficits and impaired concentration, affecting workers in a variety of fields. The study evaluates the impact of these disorders on workers' health and safety, their clinical manifestations, and treatment strategies. The study also highlights the under-recognition of OSA in commercial drivers and the need for improved guidelines and regulations for screening, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term follow-up of OSA in commercial motor vehicle drivers. Increased recognition of the ways in which these sleep disorders impact workers can significantly improve occupational health and safety.
