Xerostomia: An easily ignored symptom in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma

This study investigates xerostomia prevalence during nasopharyngeal carcinoma induction chemotherapy (IC). Among 52 patients, 32.7% experienced pre-IC xerostomia. Post-IC, 61.5% suffered xerostomia, with 40.4% newly diagnosed. Xerostomia aggravation occurred in 21.1% with pre-IC xerostomia. Submandibular gland volume reduction after IC was an independent risk factor for xerostomia, highlighting its significance in NPC patients.
