Younger Women with Type 2 Diabetes and Reduced Kidney Function Face Higher Mortality Risks

A retrospective cohort study on 36,556 type 2 diabetes patients aged >40, exploring the interplay of age, gender, and kidney function's impact on all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. Over 6 years, 6.82% died from all causes, and 1.9% from cardiovascular disease. Significant age-gender-eGFR interactions were found, particularly in younger women with lower eGFR facing higher all-cause mortality risk (HR 3.70), emphasizing the need for targeted interventions. Cardiovascular mortality showed similar trends. This study underscores gender-specific vulnerabilities in type 2 diabetes populations, urging tailored healthcare strategies.
