Pulmonary club cells predominantly produce a pneumoprotein called Club cell secretory protein (CC16). Circulating CC16 is associated with protection from the development and progression of the two most prevalent obstructive lung diseases: asthma and COPD. The study identifies a novel receptor for CC16, VLA-4, which has extensive arbitrary implications for the role of CC16 in circulation and the lung compartment.
