A clinical trial evaluated the efficacy of chloroquine (CQ) combined with primaquine (PQ) for treating uncomplicated Plasmodium vivax malaria. The study included 108 patients, with 100 completing a 42-day follow-up. The combination therapy demonstrated 100% cure rates at both day 28 and day 42, with no reported adverse effects or signs of haemolysis. Most malaria symptoms resolved early in the treatment course. The results support CQ and PQ as highly effective for P. vivax mono-infections. Continued patient adherence to the full 14-day PQ regimen is critical for maintaining this success, necessitating efforts to increase public awareness about medication completion.
