This study compared the effectiveness and safety of two drugs, ipragliflozin and sitagliptin, in patients with type 2 diabetes who were not adequately controlled with metformin and sulphonylurea. The study found that ipragliflozin was more effective than sitagliptin in reducing glycated hemoglobin levels and improving other metabolic parameters, such as fatty liver indices and ketone levels. Ipragliflozin also improved endothelial function, while sitagliptin did not. The safety profiles of both drugs were similar. The study suggests that ipragliflozin can be a viable option for better glycemic control with multiple vascular and metabolic benefits in patients with type 2 diabetes who are inadequately controlled with metformin and sulphonylurea.
