
The evidence that normalization of blood pressure is accompanied by beneficial clinical outcomes is unequivocal. This was already evident in the 1960s, when data from the pioneering Framingham Heart Study clearly showed that elevation in blood pressure was tightly linked to an increased risk of illness and death from cardiovascular disease.
