Researchers proposed a novel approach for assessing airway opening pressure (AOP) during volume assist control ventilation. They introduced the conductive pressure (Pcond) method, which compared Pcond to resistive pressure for AOP measurement. The method was validated on mechanical and physiological models, and its diagnostic performance was evaluated in 213 patients. The Pcond method showed high sensitivity (93%) and specificity (91%) for AOP detection, and its results strongly correlated with the standard low-flow method. Additionally, the Pcond method demonstrated better respiratory and hemodynamic tolerance than the standard method. Overall, the Pcond method offers a safe and effective means of detecting and measuring AOP during constant-flow assist control ventilation.
