A Retrospective Study Comparing of Group B Streptococcus Invasiveness in Pregnant Women and Infants

In this study, the invasiveness of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) was explored, focusing on pregnant women and newborns. The research involved 6892 pregnant women who were screened for GBS and identified 48 GBS-positive newborns. The results indicated that, after excluding other potential risk factors for adverse pregnancy outcomes, there were no significant differences between GBS-positive and GBS-negative pregnant women, except for age. The GBS-positive rate was higher in the 19-30 years group compared to older age groups. In the newborns, significant differences were observed in delivery mode, gestational age, birth weight, and Apgar scores between GBS-colonized, GBS-infected, and deceased groups. GBS was more likely to affect premature newborns with low birth weight and poor health.
