A Review of Recent Trials and Patient Perspectives Revealed Rheumatoid Arthritis Prevention in Arthralgia

The 'window of opportunity' concept in disease treatment suggests a critical time frame for effective and lasting intervention. In rheumatoid arthritis (RA), this window ideally occurs before clinical arthritis and diagnosis. Recent proof-of-concept trials in the 'arthralgia' phase of RA aim to prevent RA development or reduce disease burden. This review presents trial outcomes and patient perspectives, suggesting potential benefits for symptomatic at-risk individuals. Challenges include identifying high-risk patients and developing monitoring tools for treatment discontinuation decisions. Without these tools, intervention may inadvertently increase disease incidence and duration, contradicting the window of opportunity concept.
