A South Asian Mediterranean‐style diet is associated with favorable adiposity measures and lower diabetes risk: The MASALA cohort

This study examined the relationship between a South Asian Mediterranean-style (SAM) diet and cardiometabolic risk factors among South Asian individuals in the US. The SAM diet was associated with lower glycated hemoglobin levels, reduced pericardial fat volume, lower odds of obesity and fatty liver, and a 25% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes over a five-year period. The findings suggest that following a SAM diet may have beneficial effects on adiposity and the risk of type 2 diabetes.
