A systematic review and meta-analysis of the association of dietary diversity with undernutrition in school-aged children

This review investigated the relationship between dietary diversity and undernutrition in school-aged children. The results indicated that inadequate dietary diversity was associated with an increased risk of stunting, as evidenced by a pooled odds ratio of 1.43. However, no significant association was found between dietary diversity and thinness. Only two studies evaluated wasting, revealing a significant odds ratio of 2.18. These findings suggest that improving dietary diversity could be an important strategy for reducing undernutrition in low- and middle-income countries, particularly with stunting.
