A new study has found that individuals with type 2 diabetes who are also taking statins have significant abnormalities in the metabolism of intestinally derived lipoproteins. The researchers found that individuals with type 2 diabetes responded more to a fat-rich meal than control participants. They also found that individuals with type 2 diabetes had a higher production of ApoB-48, a protein found in lipoproteins. These findings suggest that abnormalities in ApoB-48 metabolism may contribute to CVD risk in type 2 diabetes patients.
