In this study of 1,077 children, ADHD symptoms were differentially related to anxiety across genders. For girls, inattention predicted increased anxiety, and anxiety contributed to inattention in adolescence. For boys, hyperactivity‐impulsivity predicted later anxiety, but anxiety did not influence ADHD symptoms. These findings highlight the need for gender-specific approaches in treating ADHD and anxiety, with a focus on inattention for girls and hyperactivity‐impulsivity for boys.
