A recent study examined the use of Sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) in individuals with type 1 diabetes, shedding light on potential risks. Results revealed that all 46 Japanese patients with type 1 diabetes experienced increased ketone concentrations after using SGLT2is. Notably, younger age and a low basal-to-bolus insulin ratio were linked to elevated ketone levels. This study underscores the need for careful consideration and patient education when prescribing SGLT2is, especially for younger patients or those with a low CPR index in type 1 diabetes management.
