Research on the health outcomes of older autistic adults (≥45 years) is limited, particularly regarding the influence of intellectual disability and sex. This study aimed to examine the association between autism and physical health conditions in older adults, considering these factors. Using Swedish population data, researchers conducted a longitudinal study and analyzed diagnoses of autism, intellectual disability, various physical conditions, and injuries from the National Patient Register. The results showed that older autistic adults had higher cumulative incidence and hazard ratios of physical conditions and injuries compared to non-autistic individuals. These risks persisted regardless of intellectual disability or sex. The findings underscore the importance of providing support and care to older autistic individuals to ensure healthy aging and a good quality of life.
