A study revealed promising results for an AI system aiding endoscopists in detecting superficial oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma and precancerous lesions. The study involving 11,715 patients demonstrated a lower per-lesion miss rate (1.7%) in the AI-first group compared to the routine-first (6.7%). Per-patient miss rates were also reduced (1.9% vs. 5.1%). This AI-assisted endoscopy could significantly improve early detection, but its real-world effectiveness and cost–benefit still require further evaluation.
