A study presented at the Heart Failure 2023 conference reveals that heart failure patients are at a higher risk of dying from their condition on polluted days and for up to two days afterwards. The research suggests that reducing air pollution can potentially prevent worsening heart failure. Air pollution, particularly particulate matter, is recognized as a significant environmental threat to human health by the World Health Organization (WHO). The study examined the relationship between smog exposure and short-term mortality from heart failure in Eastern Poland. The findings emphasize the importance of protecting vulnerable groups and integrating air quality monitoring into clinical care.
