A retrospective cohort study from March 2016 to August 2022 analyzed 1306 septic patients. The study compared those with persistent lymphopenia (≥2 days) against those with nonpersistent lymphopenia. Results indicated that patients with persistent lymphopenia exhibited higher mortality rates, increased ICU admissions, mechanical ventilation usage, positive microbial culture pathogens, and prolonged hospital stays. The study concludes that septic patients with persistent lymphopenia face heightened mortality risks, worse conditions, increased secondary infection susceptibility, and poor prognosis independent of shock.
