Alcohol Biomarker PEth Predicts Liver Risk in MASLD Patients

A large Swedish study found that 33% of patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) had PEth levels indicating excessive alcohol use. Elevated PEth was linked to worse liver outcomes—even without cirrhosis—suggesting it may be a valuable tool for distinguishing MASLD from alcohol-related liver disease and guiding treatment decisions.
