This study investigated the effect of house dust mite sublingual immunotherapy (HDM-SLIT) on bronchial epithelial antiviral and inflammatory responses in patients with allergic asthma. The study found that HDM-SLIT improved bronchial epithelial antiviral resistance to viral infection by increasing the expression of IFN-β and IFN-λ genes and proteins. Proinflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-α also increased in the HDM-SLIT group compared to baseline. The results suggest that the efficacy of HDM-SLIT in reducing exacerbations in allergic asthma may be explained by its ability to improve bronchial epithelial antiviral resistance.
