Ambient temperature and mental health: a systematic review and meta-analysis

An analysis of 114 studies revealed a concerning association between ambient outdoor temperature and mental health outcomes. Meta-analyses showed that a mere 1°C increase in monthly and daily temperatures correlated with a 1.5% and 1.7% rise in suicide incidence, respectively. Heatwaves led to a staggering 9.7% increase in hospital admissions for mental illness. Moreover, worse community mental health and wellbeing were linked to rising temperatures.
