Anti-Inflammatory Effects and Clinical Efficacy of Podo-Whan and Tulobuterol in Mild to Moderate COPD

A recent study compared the effectiveness of Podo-Hwan, a traditional Korean medicine, and tulobuterol patch in treating mild to moderate Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The research involved 13 COPD patients in an eight-week trial. Podo-Hwan significantly reduced inflammatory cell count and improved lung function parameters like FEV1 and FVC. In contrast, tulobuterol showed no significant changes in inflammatory markers or lung function. Quality of life scores and other inflammatory markers remained unaffected in both treatments. These results suggest that Podo-Hwan may have anti-inflammatory effects and enhance lung function in mild to moderate COPD patients, highlighting its potential as a treatment option.
