Antioxidant-Rich Diet Linked to Lower Risk of Myocardial Infarction

A study examined the relationship between the Dietary Antioxidant Index (DAI) and myocardial infarction (MI) risk. Researchers found an inverse association between DAI and MI risk by analyzing data from 156 MI cases and 312 controls from the Fasa Adults Cohort Study. After adjusting for factors such as body mass index, smoking status, and various lipid levels, the study revealed that a higher DAI was linked to a lower risk of MI (adjusted Odds Ratio: 0.88, 95% CI: 0.85–0.92; P < 0.001). These findings underscore the potential benefit of antioxidant-rich diets in reducing MI risk and promoting cardiovascular health.
