Antipsychotic Use in Neurodisabled Children: Real-World Insights

In a review of 147 children with neurodisability, risperidone was the most prescribed antipsychotic, mainly for managing challenging behaviors. Off-label use was common, particularly with olanzapine (97%). Polypharmacy occurred in 78% of cases, often with sedatives and antidepressants. These findings reveal a significant gap between current prescribing practices and existing evidence, emphasizing the need for more targeted research and guidelines.
