The study aimed to assess whether anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) therapy could slow down the progression of retinal non-perfusion (RNP) in diabetic retinopathy (DR). A meta-analysis of six randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to compare the impact of anti-VEGF therapy with laser or sham on RNP progression at 12 and 24 months. The results showed that anti-VEGF therapy may slightly slow down RNP progression in DR, but the certainty of evidence was low due to indirectness and imprecision. Future trials are needed to increase precision and inform the association between RNP progression and clinically important events.
