
A recent study assessed the outcomes of arthroscopic repair for large subscapularis (SSC) tears, focusing on structural and clinical results. The study included 109 patients who underwent this procedure and were followed up for approximately 7 years. Results showed an 8.3% SSC retear rate, with higher rates in type IV tears than type III. Factors influencing SSC retear included large supraspinatus (SSP) tear size, severe SSC atrophy, and SSP atrophy. Patients with SSC retear experienced poorer clinical outcomes, except for external rotation. Additionally, around 34.2% of patients had final poor clinical outcomes, with female sex, SSC retear, and SSP retear being significant factors. This study highlights the importance of patient selection for arthroscopic repair of large SSC tears.
