Assessment of Adverse Reactions, Antibody Patterns, and 12-month Outcomes in the Mother-Infant Dyad After COVID-19 mRNA Vaccination in Pregnancy

A study investigated COVID-19 mRNA vaccine effects on pregnant individuals and their infants. Conducted from Dec 2020 to Mar 2022, it included 76 pregnant participants receiving Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines. After the second dose, systemic symptoms were more common (71.2% vs. 44.1% after the first dose). Symptoms were linked to higher IgG titers (2596 vs. 1568 RFU) and increased cord titers. Vaccination in all trimesters generated strong maternal IgG response; transfer ratio highest in the 2nd trimester. Cord blood showed IgG regardless of trimester. Maternal milk contained IgG/IgA up to 5-6 months post-birth. No adverse perinatal effects observed, indicating safe and effective vaccine response during pregnancy.
