Association between a hospitalization for heart failure and the initiation/discontinuation of guideline‐recommended treatments: an analysis from the Swedish Heart Failure Registry

This study investigated the association between heart failure (HF) hospitalization and the initiation or discontinuation of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) and its impact on outcomes. The results showed that following an HF hospitalization, the initiation of GDMT, including renin-angiotensin system inhibitors/angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitors or beta-blockers, was more likely than discontinuation. However, the proportion of patients not receiving GDMT remained high. Older age and worse renal function were associated with less use of GDMT. Initiating GDMT after an HF hospitalization was associated with lower mortality risk, emphasizing the importance of implementing guideline recommendations.
