Air pollution is a serious health concern and affects inflammatory sinonasal diseases such as allergic rhinitis (AR) and chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). Clarifying the relationship between air pollutants and upper respiratory disorders could help the patients. The purpose is to evaluate the association between the concentration of air pollutants and the prevalence of AR and CRS among South Koreans. The prevalence of AR was significantly associated with PM10 concentration. In patients with AR, endoscopic findings of watery rhinorrhea were associated with PM10. However, CRS was not associated with air pollutant concentrations. Therefore, a lower concentration of PM10 might help managing the clinical symptoms in patients of AR.
