Association between low selenoprotein P concentrations and anaemia in hospitalized heart failure patients

A new study reveals a significant link between selenium deficiency and anaemia in hospitalized heart failure (HF) patients. Analyzing 320 HF subjects, researchers found that lower selenoprotein P (SELENOP) concentrations were associated with a higher prevalence of anemia. Based on the BIOSTAT-CHF research, the study highlighted that HF patients with higher selenium levels had a lower risk of anemia and iron deficiency. The findings emphasize the potential impact of selenium levels on the health outcomes of HF patients, shedding light on a previously understudied aspect.
