Association between maternal socioeconomic status and breastfeeding: Results from the Japan environment and children’s study

The study aimed to evaluate the relationship between breastfeeding in Japan and maternal socioeconomic circumstances. The researchers used data from the Japan Environment and Children's Study and found that mothers with higher education and full-time homemakers were more likely to breastfeed their one-year-old children. On the other hand, mothers who worked long hours, whether part-time or full-time, were less likely to continue breastfeeding. The study suggests promoting awareness of breastfeeding for all mothers and creating a workplace environment that supports working mothers to breastfeed to improve breastfeeding rates.
