Association of Blood Pressure Control with Cardiovascular Outcomes in Hypertensive Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea

This retrospective study investigated blood pressure (BP) control's impact on long-term major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) in 3267 hypertensive patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Over a 7-year follow-up, BP control at 120-139/80-89mmHg showed a potential benefit in reducing cerebrovascular events, particularly in OSA patients. However, this association was not significant for MACCE or cardiac events. A separate analysis of systolic and diastolic BP revealed decreased MACCE and cerebrovascular events with SBP control at 120-139mmHg or < 120mmHg, and DBP control < 80mmHg showed a 54% decrease in cerebrovascular events in hypertensive patients with OSA. Future studies are needed to validate these findings.
