The present study investigated the associations between dietary patterns and lipid profiles with obesity risks in a Chinese population. Two dietary patterns were identified, and the newly affluent southern pattern was found to be positively associated with 45 lipid-related metabolites, which were also associated with increased risks of obesity. The lipid profile explained a significant portion of the effect of the dietary pattern on obesity risks. These findings provide insight into the biological mechanism underlying the obesogenic effects of the newly affluent southern pattern in the Chinese population.
