Association of Hemoglobin A1c Levels with Abdominal Aortic Calcification

The study explores the relationship between Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), a marker for glycemic control, and abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) using data from the 2013–2014 National Health and Nutrition Examinations Surveys. Higher HbA1c levels were associated with increased AAC scores and a higher risk of severe AAC, indicating a potential link between glycemic control and cardiovascular health. This association was more pronounced in normotensive individuals. Controlling HbA1c may be crucial in preventing AAC, particularly among those without hypertension.
