An observational study compared the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) among hospitalized individuals with and without HIV. People with HIV, regardless of viral suppression, showed an increased risk of AKI compared to those without HIV. The study suggests that HIV is an independent risk factor for AKI in hospitalized patients.
