
A recent study found that long sleep duration (> 9h/day) and low cognitive function (MMSE < 27) independently increased the risk of mortality. Based on 9,396 person-years of data, the study reported adjusted hazard ratios of 1.47 for long sleep duration and 1.81 for low MMSE scores in all-cause mortality. Expanded cardiovascular disease mortality showed a dose-dependent relationship with cognitive function. Combining long sleep duration and low MMSE scores posed the highest risks for both expanded CVD and all-cause mortality. The findings emphasize the importance of monitoring sleep and cognitive health in elderly communities.
