A recent study aimed to analyze the impact of diet composition on weight outcomes after bariatric surgery. Researchers conducted a comprehensive review of studies published up to June 2021 and identified 36 eligible articles. These studies included both intervention and observational cohort studies with a total sample size of 5,065 individuals. Findings on the association between long-term weight outcomes and dietary composition up to 24 months were inconclusive. However, after 24 months, studies consistently suggested no significant associations between weight loss and macronutrient composition or core food group patterns. Individualized dietary recommendations may be beneficial for long-term weight management after bariatric surgery.
