A study published in The American Journal of Sports Medicine examined the patterns of posttraumatic anterior shoulder instability lesions in adolescent athletes. The study included 131 shoulders of patients aged ≤18 years treated for traumatic anterior shoulder instability. The study found that the type of instability lesion varied significantly by age. Bony injuries such as Bankart and Hill-Sachs lesions were more common in patients aged ≥15 years. On the other hand, atypical lesions, such as anterior labral periosteal sleeve avulsions, were more prevalent in patients aged <15 years. The study highlights the importance of accurate diagnosis and appropriate management of soft tissue injuries in younger patients with shoulder instability.
