AutoART Reliable but Inconclusive for Predicting Hearing Outcomes in Adults

A retrospective study compared electrically evoked compound action potential (ECAP) measurements via automatic auditory response telemetry (AutoART) and conventional auditory response telemetry (ART) in adults. The study assessed the predictive value of intraoperative ECAPs for speech intelligibility (SI) and hearing success (HS) and explored whether preoperative cochlear nerve cross-sectional area (CN CSA) from MRI scans could predict outcomes. While significant correlations were found between AutoART and ART ECAP thresholds, no predictive value was observed for SI, HS, or CN CSA. The study concludes that AutoART is reliable, but current MRI parameters do not predict hearing outcomes.
