Automated insulin delivery (AID) systems, which integrate continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) with insulin pumps, have significantly improved glycaemic control and quality of life for individuals with insulin-treated diabetes. This review outlines the technical advancements enabling this connectivity, focusing on the clinical benefits observed in type 1 diabetes (T1D) through clinical trials and real-world data. It also addresses outcomes in type 2 diabetes (T2D) and other subtypes, while discussing the limitations of current technologies and exploring future opportunities for enhancement.
