This study aimed to investigate the bacterial quantity and expression of interleukin-17 (IL-17) in necrotic teeth with apical periodontitis (AP) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), pre-diabetes, and non-diabetic controls. A total of 65 patients with necrotic pulp and AP were included. Bacterial samples were collected and quantified using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Samples from the periapical tissue fluid were collected to assess IL-17 expression. The results showed that T2DM patients had higher bacterial counts and IL-17 expression, although the differences were not statistically significant. However, T2DM patients taking statins showed a trend of lower bacterial counts.

Blocking miR-30e-5p reduced atherosclerosis in obese and atherosclerotic mice, highlighting a potential therapeutic pathway.
