Prostate cancer clinicians in Australia and New Zealand have identified key barriers and enablers to active surveillance (AS) for men with low-risk prostate cancer (LRPC). Through interviews with urologists and radiation oncologists, a model explaining clinician decision-making regarding AS in LRPC patients has emerged. Three overarching themes were revealed: clinician perception of patient barriers and enablers, clinician perception of their own barriers and enablers, and engagement with the healthcare team and resource availability. Despite consensus on AS's efficacy, access remains limited due to patient and clinician factors and healthcare system interactions. This study aims to provide strategies for increasing LRPC patient access to AS.
