BCSC Launches Advanced Breast Cancer Risk Model (v3) with BMI Integration for Improved Prevention and Screening Strategy

In a significant development, the Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium (BCSC) has unveiled the latest version of its invasive breast cancer risk model, BCSC v3. This update incorporates BMI, extended family history of breast cancer, and age at first live birth, providing a more comprehensive basis for breast cancer prevention therapies and risk-based screening. The study, conducted on a cohort of 1,455,493 women aged 35-79 without prior breast cancer, utilized Cox proportional hazards regression. The BCSC v3 model demonstrated enhanced discrimination and calibration, particularly benefiting Asian, White, and Black women. Notably, the inclusion of BMI exhibited the most substantial improvement in estimating individual risk.
