
A recent study delves into the potential of berbamine, sourced from berberis amurensis, as an antitumor agent against prostate cancer stem cells (CSCs). These CSCs are known for their self-renewal ability and drug resistance, contributing to cancer progression and relapse. The study found that berbamine effectively targets prostate CSCs and enhances the efficacy of cabazitaxel, a second-line chemotherapy drug for advanced prostate cancer. By inhibiting specific molecular pathways, including ABCG2, CXCR4, IGF2BP1, and p-STAT3, berbamine overcomes cabazitaxel resistance. Furthermore, it influences miRNA expression via exosome delivery, potentially opening new avenues for cancer treatment.
