Bexagliflozin, when used as an adjunct to metformin, has shown promising results in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, according to a study. The research involved 317 participants who were randomly assigned to receive either bexagliflozin or a placebo along with metformin. The primary goal was to assess the change in glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels after 24 weeks. Results indicated that the bexagliflozin group experienced a greater reduction in HbA1c compared to the placebo group. Furthermore, bexagliflozin demonstrated additional benefits in terms of systolic blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, and weight loss. Adverse events were reported in both groups but were fewer in the bexagliflozin arm. These findings suggest that bexagliflozin could be an effective and safe option for adults with diabetes when combined with metformin.
