This study explored bile acid (BA) changes after two bariatric surgeries—SR-LRYGB and LSG—in patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes over 5 years. While total BA levels rose initially, they returned to baseline by year five. However, specific BA profiles identified via principal component analysis correlated with sustained metabolic improvements, particularly after SR-LRYGB. The study suggests these BA patterns may underlie long-term benefits, recommending further research with mixed-meal tests.
