Biochemical recurrence in patients with prostate cancer after primary definitive therapy

Approximately one-third of prostate cancer patients face biochemical recurrence (BCR) following initial treatment, elevating their risk of metastasis and mortality. A comprehensive approach was conducted, combining clinicopathological factors, advanced imaging, and genomic testing is recommended. The findings underscore the importance of risk stratification, supported by European and US medical societies. Treatment options post-radical prostatectomy include salvage external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) with or without androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Following EBRT, various local salvage therapies yield comparable relapse-free survival rates but differ in side effects. Ongoing clinical studies promise further insights for BCR management.
