Bioimpedance may help guide fluid treatment and prevent organ dysfunction due to fluid overload. A prospective observational study was conducted to evaluate the correlation between bioimpedance and organ dysfunction in septic shock patients. Bioimpedance was measured using a body composition monitor and BioScan Touch i8. Changes in impedance were found to be associated with the course of overall disease severity, changes in noradrenaline dose, and fluid balance. Changes in bioimpedance-derived fluid balance were associated with changes in noradrenaline dose, cumulative fluid balances, and lactate concentrations. Single measurements of bioimpedance were not associated with any changes in organ dysfunction.
